Target Marketing: Why Do You Have to Do This?

More than the concept of selling and buying, marketing is an intricate process that requires thorough data analysis and apt decision-making. Marketing actually means preparing a ‘technique’ that involves a point-by-point charting of plan. Generally speaking, this said technique is for the promotion, sale and distribution of a product or service.

When we talk about marketing, it always has a twin subject matter – market. In business, market doesn’t refer to that place where the trading of goods is done. It actually refers to consumer or customers and the commercial world they move in.

Now that we’ve defined marketing and market, let us now define target marketing. Target marketing means choosing a particular group of people to whom the company shall focus its attention. And by attention, we mean promoting, selling and distributing of products or services.

As an entrepreneur, do you really have to target a specific group of customers? If yes, then why? Let’s find out. Well, the answer to that is a yes. And why? Here are the reasons.

You need to identify your market to save time, effort and money. In trading and haggling, it’s not enough to live by the rule that everybody will appreciate, buy and patronize your product. This is because not everybody has the money, time and opportunity to do so. Besides, if it were the case, can you imagine how chaotic and messy the business world can be? Therefore, to save resources, you ought to bring your offering to the people who will surely buy it or, at least, have the potential to buy it. And who are these people? I think it’s just logical to say that those who need the product are more likely to buy it than those who just want it. Another thing, no matter how hard you push your marketing campaigns are, if you are presenting your offering to those who don’t have the tiniest inclination to buy, it won’t be bought. Imagine playing hip-hop songs in a rock concert. You’d be booed, right? That’s the basically the picture.

Another reason why target marketing is a must is, it will help you maximize your chance to make sales and earn profits. If you were in the right place at the right time, you’ll make the most out of every ‘sale’ opportunity that is presented to you. Besides, if it were the case, you won’t have to exert too much of a marketing effort just to make your product visible. However, it isn’t a reason to slack off.

Place in one of the elements of marketing mix. Therefore, if you are where you should be, there’ll be a fatter chance for growth, improvement and development, in general.

There are many reasons behind target marketing. These are just a few. Note that in targeting a group of customers means understanding them, too.
